Meghalaya Govt Imposes Restriction in East Khasi Hills, Educational Institutions in Shillong to be Closed

T-PCR test mandatory in entry points for entrants from 23rd April also tourist spots in the district will be shut till 30th April 2021.

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government on April 21 in view of rising COVID-19 cases in the Shillong agglomeration has decided to make certain restrictions in East Khasi Hills.

Further, the RT-PCR test mandatory in entry points for entrants from 23rd April also tourist spots in the district will be shut till 30th April 2021.

On the other hand, colleges and universities in Shillong will be closed up to 3rd May 2021 except colleges that are exam centers. Meanwhile, non-essential shops will be closed from 26th to 2nd May 2021.

Further, the state government has also decided to operate all government and private offices with 33 percent capacity and Gyms, Swimming Pools, Gaming Parlours, Cinemas, Clubs, Salons, Bars will be shut from 23rd till 30th April 2021.

In a tweet, the minister wrote, "All schools to close from tomorrow for the next 14 days till 4th May 2021 in the Shillong area. Ongoing MBOSE examinations will continue unaffected. Govt. & Pvt. offices will also function with 50% capacity. The situation in other districts is being closely monitored."

Meghalaya, on Monday, recorded another COVID-19 death taking the number of such cases to 154. The latest casualty is Nandeswar Das (80) of Nongrim Hills, Shillong, informed Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War. The victim was admitted to Supercare Hospital in a gasping stage and tested COVID positive on April 18 at 3:20 pm and expired on April 18 at 4:22 pm. The cause of death is Diabetes Mellitus with COVID-19 Infection.
