Shillong: Now People in Meghalaya have to pay more for booking fancy numbers on motor vehicles going forward. The Meghalaya government has decided to revise booking rates of fancy numbers (motor vehicles) from existing rates on January 29.
In a tweet, the Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma wrote, "To generate Additional Revenue for #Meghalaya, Cabinet has decided to revise booking rates of fancy numbers (motor vehicles) from existing rates. Through this decision, the collection of revenue is anticipated to increase no less than ₹ 7 Cr. annually."
Reportedly, the cabinet made this decision to generate additional revenue to the state government.
Meanwhile, the Sangma led-Meghalaya government would make a collection of revenue which is anticipated to increase not less than Rs 7 crore annually.
Revealing details, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed that the rate for fancy number ML 0001 has been enhanced from Rs 30,000 to a whopping Rs 1 lakh, while the rate for number 0002 has been revised from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000.
For fancy number 0003, the Cabinet has decided to increase the rate from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000; the number 0007 will now cost Rs 70,000, which is Rs 40000 dearer than the earlier rate.
Numbers 0009 will cost Rs 50,000 (earlier Rs 30,000); 0786 at 70,000 from Rs 20,000; and Rs 50,000 for 1111, which cost Rs 15,000 before.
The deputy chief minister also informed that the special rate for jumping numbers was also increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000.
On the other hand, the Cabinet also approved the draft Meghalaya Electric Vehicle Policy, 2020. The policy will be effective from April 1 this year.

In other landmark decisions, the cabinet sought to give the Shillong Golf Course a facelift, including the development of infrastructure for its beautification to boost tourism in the State were discussed with Minister Sh. A. L. Hek and key officials of the Urban Department and Municipal Board.
