SHILLONG: Amid recent hike in petrol and diesel price in India, the Meghalaya government has decided to reduce the petrol and diesel price in the state by Rs 2 per litre effective from midnight of Feb 8.
This was informed by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
Informing this Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, "In view of the recent price hike in petrol and diesel in Meghalaya, Government has decided that the rate for both petrol and diesel will be reduced by 2 rupees per litre, effective from midnight of 8th February 2021."
Earlier, on February 4, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das on Friday put the onus on both the Centre and states to ensure through concerted policy measures that current cost builds in petroleum products and industrials raw materials does not escalate further.
Without directly seeking a cut in excise and VAT levies, the RBI Governor said that petroleum product prices have reached historic highs as international crude prices surged in recent months and "the high indirect taxes remain", both in the Centre and states.
In a video statement after the Monetary Policy Committee's bi-monthly meet, Das said the spike in petro product prices, along with the sharp increase in industrial raw material prices have resulted in a broad-based increase in prices of services and manufacturing products in recent months.
Meanwhile, the price of non-subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder rose to Rs. 25.
After the current hike of Rs. 25, the price of cooking gas in Guwahati was seen at Rs. 768. Earlier, the LPG gas price was at Rs. 743.
Meanwhile, in other states, an LPG cooking gas cylinder user in New Delhi will have to pay Rs 719 instead of Rs 694. The LPG price in Lucknow has become Rs 757 from Rs 732, LPG price in Noida will become Rs 717 instead of Rs 692.
The Government has also increased the commercial (19 kg) LPG cylinder price from Rs 1349 to Rs 1533 an increase of Rs 184 per LPG cylinder price.
