AHSEC to Continue 'Alt English' in Lieu of MIL in Higher Secondary

GUWAHATI: The secondary education department has decided to continue ALTE as a part of the core subject 'in lieu of MIL' as earlier.

Meanwhile, the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has issued a notification in this regard.

Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu wrote, "The subject 'Alternative English (ALTE)' will be continued as a part of core subject 'in lieu of MIL' as earlier. AHSEC has issued a notification in this regard."

The decision to reverse the previous order came after the Karbi Students Union, Principals of different Senior Secondary Schools, Higher Secondary schools of Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, and other parts of the state of Assam have submitted representations regarding the problems being faced by them with regard to the admission of students into the Higher Secondary 1 year class without the subject namely Alternative English as ML in the curriculum.

"Accordingly, in the interest of students, the Government of Assam in Education Department have reviewed the whole matter which has arisen due to withdrawal of Alternative English MIL by No.AHSEC/ACA?ENG/243/2008/02 dated 04/01/2021, and Department is of the opinion that sudden withdrawal of the said subject from the Higher Secondary class will badly affect a section of students in the state, who are aspiring for admission into as AHSEC vide Notification Higher Classes. In view of the above, the Government of Assam in Secondary Education Department in exercise of the powers conferred under section 14 (4) of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Act, 1984 do hereby direct AHSEC to keep its notification No.AHSEC/ACA?ENG/243/2008/02 dated 04/01/2021 in abeyance until further order," said the latest notification issued on Thursday.
