CMSDU was established in the year 2002. The faculty of Commerce and Management Studies of Dibrugarh University manages this centre. Dibrugarh University's Centre of Management Studies (CMSDU) offers admission to varied management programs that include BBA (Bachelors of Business Administration), MBA (Masters of Business Administration) for both full time & part-time, PGDTM (Post Graduate Diploma in Tourism Management), and courses of PhD.
The mode of applying for these courses is offline. However, the application is also available online. If any candidate is interested in applying for the BBA program, they have to complete their Higher Secondary or are appearing the same. The criterion of selection is entirely dependent on the performance of the students.
In terms of MBA programs, applicants must possess a graduate degree in order to be eligible to apply. The criterion of selection is the marks scored by the applicants in MAT or CMAT or CAT including the marks scored in the group discussion and personal interview.
For Post Graduate Diploma courses, candidates have to be graduates. The basis of selection is the marks scored in the written test and personal interview.
Aspirants who possess a post-graduate degree can seek admission in the PhD courses. The criterion of selection is their performance on the research entrance test conducted by the university which is called DURAT.
The CMSDU is under the state government. Admission to all the programs is dependent on the entrance examinations. These examinations include DURAT (Dibrugarh University Research Admission Test), CMSDU Admission Test, CMAT (Common Management Aptitude Test), CAT (Common Aptitude Test), and MAT (Management Aptitude Test).

Formed in the year 1965, Dibrugarh University is a very well-known university in Assam. The Assam Legislative Assembly established this university. It is popular for its extremely good teaching quality and high-value research programs. Under this university, approximately 172 affiliated institutes and colleges are there in the 9 districts of the state of Assam.
The Centre of Management Studies of Dibrugarh University has a BBA program which is three years in duration. BBA is the only degree course offered by the Centre.
The specialisations that it provides are Human Resource Management, Financial Management, Marketing Management, Management of Insurance Business, Travel and Tourism Management, Digital Marketing, and Hospital and Health Care Management.
Applicants must complete Higher Secondary under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC) or any other equivalent qualifications. Also, candidates must possess a minimum of 50% marks in the mentioned examination to be suitable for applying to the BBA program. The final selection for the course is based only on the marks scored in the selection examination.
In the case of more number of qualified candidates, a waiting list of those meritorious students will be released, if the necessity arises. These applicants also have to sit for the interview along with the applicants selected in the provincial list. When seats for the program are not filled completely, these qualified candidates, on the waiting list, will be selected.
Candidates who are not native Indian, i.e., foreign candidates, are not required to sit for the entrance examination. The only requirement is that they have to score the required marks in TOEFL (Teaching of English as a Foreign Language) or ELTIS (English Language Teaching Institute of Symbiosis). Or, they must pass the qualifying examination in the English language.
Dibrugarh University offers courses at the postgraduate level to students who have pursued their graduate degree. These postgraduate courses include a Post Graduate Diploma in Tourism Management and an MBA (Masters of Business Administration).
In the case of admissions to the Diploma courses of postgraduate level, the interested applicants must score qualifying marks in the selection examination and the personal interview.
This postgraduate diploma is offered only in tourism management. The total intake for this program is twenty-five. Interested applicants must score an average of 40% in their graduation. The entrance examination and the personal interview, for the selection of the eligible candidates, are organized by the university.
The total duration of the program is two years. A field trip of approximately two weeks is compulsory during the entire course. On these field trips, they need to visit places that are of tourist interest specifically in the northeast area. These trips usually start after the completion of the first-semester examination.
The university gives both the alternatives of full time and part-time to pursue the program MBA. The part-time course of MBA is of three years in duration, and the full time is a course of four semesters.
Candidates, seeking for MBA course which is full-time, need to score qualifying marks in CMAT or MAT or CAT. Also, they have to score well in the group discussion and personal interview. The overall score will be the basis of admission to the program.
Applicants, who are interested in a part-time MBA course, need to score well in the interview. Also, they need to possess experience in the industrial field.
The specialisations which are available in the full-time MBA program include- Small Business and Entrepreneurship Development, Human Resource Management, Systems Management, Finance Management, Tourism Hospitality and Event Management, and Marketing Management.
The total intake capacity of students, to this full-time program, is 60. Candidates have to score, at least, 50% marks in their graduation, however, applicants with a degree in Fine Arts or Music are not eligible for applying to this program. In addition, the aspirants need to score qualifying marks in CMAT or CAT or MAT. Also, they need to perform well in the personal interview session as well as group discussion.
The specialisations which are available in the part-time MBA program include- Financial Management, Human Resource Management, and Marketing Management.
The total intake of students, to this part-time program, is 26. Similar to the full-time course, an applicant must have 50% marks in his/her graduation. An aspirant with a degree in Fine Arts or Music is not eligible for this course. These eligible aspirants need to perform well in the personal interview round and score the required marks. Also, they must possess experience in the industrial domain.
Candidates, pursuing the part-time course of MBA, will receive a management certificate after completing the first year. They will receive a diploma after the second year of the program. Finally, after the successful completion of the third year, they will receive their degree of MBA.
The university also has a course for a postgraduate diploma in Tourism. The total intake of students, to this diploma course, is 25. The interested applicants have to score an average of 40% in their graduation. Candidates with a degree in any stream are eligible for applying to this program.
To get selected to this program, they have to perform well and score the qualifying marks in the entrance examination conducted by the CMSDU along with the personal interview.
The university has both the options of full-time and part-time in the program of PhD. The specialisation offered, to pursue the PhD course, is Management Studies. To be qualified for applying to this course, the interested applicants must have, at least, 50% score in their graduation. To get selected, they have to sit for an entrance test which is called DURAT (Dibrugarh University Research Admission Test). Also, they need to perform well in the personal interview session which is conducted by the university.
Dibrugarh University Research Entrance Test is organised by the university every year. Candidates, keen to pursue a PhD or MPhil course, can apply for DURAT. Individuals having a good score in their post-graduation are eligible to apply for this entrance test.
Candidates interested in getting seats for DURAT must fulfil certain criteria to be able to apply, before initiating the procedure of application. These criteria, for being eligible, are elaborated as follows-
Candidates, who qualified in the DURAT, need to seat for the viva-voice round to get enrolled in the PhD program. This session carries 30% of the total marks for applicants, who have got the qualifying score in the test. However, it carries 100% marks for those aspirants who are spared from sitting for the test.
The schedule for admission along with the list of candidates will be published on the university's official website. The fee for admission and course fee, for those aspirants who are selected, is Rs. 6000/-. The payment should be done only through the mode of an online gateway, for example, credit card, net banking, debit card, etc. The university will not allow any other form of transaction to pay the course fee and admission fee.
The Centre of Management Studies, Dibrugarh University will soon release its notification for admission to the varied courses offered by it.
