Eating Out: Piazza

Sentinel Digital Desk

Over the last few years, the food and beverages industry of Guwahati has developed at a tremendous pace. With the increase in purchasing power and rise of the middle class, dining out has become more common among the people. To cater to this increasing demand of the people, a number of casual and fine dining restaurants have come up in the city.

After the stupendous success of multinationals like KFC and Pizza Hut and also a few homegrown joints like Pizerria and the like, which could not compete with the firebrand national competition, a not-so-new Italian and continental restaurant, serving Italian food and diverse range of pizzas is soon attracting lots of customers in the city. With elegant décor and chic design, this place looks like it is here to stay.

We are talking about Piazza, which is located opposite the RG Baruah Stadium in B Barooah Road. Elegantly decorated with a unique design and cozy ambience, the place also had parking facilities for all those who are worried about finding a spot to park their vehicle while going out to dine with their loved ones.

Talking about the concept behind Piazzo, its manager said, “Piazza is a short story of an explorer’s life. We have a cosy decor along with a loft, inspired by a couple of European-themed market places like Piazza San Marco and Placa Catalunya. The director of the restaurant is Dolly Hazarika”.

Within a short time, the Piazza Restaurant has stirred quite a few eyebrows due to is unique ambience, hygiene, well-mannered staff and reasonable pricing of quality continental which are not be to be found elsewhere in the city. Talking about the menu, Chamuah says, “Our USP is our team of amazing people besides our hand tossed pizzas, cheese cigars and Mandarin delicacies”.

With a huge number of restaurants coming up at frequent intervals in the city, Piazza restaurant serves a select menu of continental dishes. We feel that it is a good step because the management can lay more emphasis on the food rather than unnecessary hyperbole.

The first thing that strikes one as he or she enters the dining area is the unique yet overpowering décor of the place. Tastefully decorated, the interiors boast of a nice assemblage tastefully crafted furniture. The interiors of the restaurant have been very nicely decorated with a nice colour scheme. The experience is truly surreal and you have to try this once just to believe it. There is presently a seating arrangement for 32 to 35 people in the restaurant. “We can accommodate around 30-32 people at a single time,” the management opines.

Some of the popular food items in the menu include the cheese cigars and Mandarin delicacies.

A food blogger Kasturi Kalita opined, “This is definitely one of the best places in Guwahati.Theambience was so classy that you will definitely fall in love with the place, again and again. The service was too quick and staff members were so polite. From mocktails to starters and the main course till the sweet end, everything was perfectly served to us. The prices are not so high, so you can definitely have great time here. I tried the Off School which is a Chilli Guava Mocktail and Jack Sparrow – a Blackcurrent Mocktail. The Wings on Fire, trust me, were the best one I have been served till date. One can also try the Meat Lover Pizza where the pizza is overloaded with cheese, veggies and lots of chicken. In short, it is a perfect place to visit. I will visit again for sure to try out more dishes from the menu.”

Another customer Arpita Choudhury said, “The place is wonderful and theinteriors are done very nicely. The service is very good. The food quantities are huge and quality is good too. Service timings are very nice and suitable for most people. You do not have to wait for long when you are starving. Overall, a very nice place in town.”

Another customer Pallavi Preyokhi Brahma, however, claimed that the serving period was a bit too long and needed to upgrade to suit the needs of the new generation. As she says, “My first take on this place is that it's very attractive. The ambience is also good but then there are a lot of cafes and restaurants with great interiors and ambience. For me, it always comes down to the food and the service. I had ordered for a platter called Hong Kong chicken. It comes with veg noodles/rice (your choice). For a simple Asian platter like this, I had to wait for more than 40minutes, it was really disappointing! Thetaste too was average. This place really has to upgrade in order to keep up!”

The pricing of the food items ranges from the average to the higher side. On an average, a meal for two will cost you around Rupees Six Hundred, without taxes. So next time you are looking for a continental joint specialising in Italian food, Piazza should definitely be on your bucket list.
