GUWAHATI, April 7: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has asked the BJP-led Sarbanda Sonowal Government at Dispur where the relevance of Gunotsav currently under in the State is.
In a statement issued to the press today, senior APCC spokesperson Apurba Bhattacharya said: “Where’s the relevance of Gunotsav in the State at a time when the State Education Department has not been able to provide textbooks free of cost to the students and appoint adequate number of teachers in the schools? With the Gunotsav gimmick Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has engaged the entire administrative machinery – right from the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, the DGP to low-rung officials – in the evaluation process in such a magnitude that other works in the State administration have come to a grinding halt. And this gimmicky is intended to hush up the failure of the State Government. Before holding Gunotsav in the State, the Education Minister should ensure that each and every student gets textbooks free of cost and each and every school in the State has adequate number of teachers. Dispur should rather take steps to solve the problems of vercular schools in the State and continue the mid-day meal.”
