GUWAHATI, Jan 6: The e-rickshaw pullers of the city have had a jerk when Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner M Angamuthu said that ‘e-rickshaws are exclusively meant for rural areas, and as such they cannot be pulled in urban areas’.
Speaking at a meeting on the iuguration of PoS in the city today, Angamuthu further said: “All auto-rickshaw pullers in the city should get themselves registered and have driving licenses.” Meanwhile, the e-rickshaw owners in the city reacted to the DC’s statement sharply. They said that they purchased e-rickshaws following the go-ahead sigl from the government. The dealers of e-rickshaws also say that they received go-ahead sigls from the government. “If e-rickshaws aren’t allowed to ply in urban areas now, they’ll have to incur loss as they took bank loans,” they said.
