Guwahati: Patient Goes Missing From GMCH Premises

A 21 year old patient went missing from Guwahati Medical College and Hospital who was undergoing some treatment since 15th of November

GUWAHATI : In a shocking incident, patient of Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) went missing from his room on Thursday. Achitaba Dey, a 21 year old boy was undergoing some treatment at the GMCH since 15th of November 2022.

Achitaba was reportedly experiencing some mental illness. The patient is a resident of Bishnu Rabha path at Odalbakra in Lalganesh area of Guwahati. According to sources, the medical personnel who was handling the patient reported to the authority about his absence in the room at around 8 am in the morning.

The parents are still searching for their son but have not found him yet.

On April 2022, a case was registered when a 7 month old baby boy went missing from the paediatric ward of GMCH. The baby was believed to have been taken out of the Assam by an unidentified couple. 

In a recent similar case, Dilip Das a resident of Rongamati, Assam's Dergaon district went missing from his casualty ward in GMCH. He was admitted in the hospital on 1st of August 2022. According to sources, Dilip Das was going through some treatment for an injury in his right leg. The injury occurred due to alleged physical assault on him at Dergaon.

The Superintendent of GMCH, Dr. Abhijit Sarma, stated that, the person did not want to undergo treatment and acted stubborn in front of the doctors. A police complaint has been lodged and the hospital authorities has also checked the CCTV footage. The person was last seen walking in the corridor inside the hospital premises, mentioned the Doctor.

In a similar incident, a patient hailing from Chandbari village in Gobardhan of Baksa district went missing from the GMCH premises. The case was later on registered in Bhangagarh Police Station. 

In another such episode, a patient hailing from Diphu went missing from the Intensive Care Unit ( (ICU) in the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital.
