The Dr. Bhubaneswar Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) was founded by the Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Society Trust, a non-profit organisation. Dr. Bhubaneswar Borooah was an Assamese physician, independence fighter, and philanthropist who lived from September 4, 1893, until September 25, 1956. At a public gathering in Guwahati in 1958, it was decided to establish a cancer hospital to honour the memory of Dr. Bhubaneswar Borooah.
