New Delhi: Billionaire Gautam Adani, chairman of Adani Group called on Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in Colombo on Monday, days after his company signed a deal with Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) to develop and run the strategic Colombo Port's Western Container Terminal (WCT).
The group is also mulling to invest in other businesses apart from developing the port.
"Privileged to meet President @GotabayaR and PM @PresRajapaksa. In addition to developing Colombo Port's Western Container Terminal, the Adnai Group will explore other infrastructure partnerships. India's strong bonds with Sri Lanka are anchored to centuries' old historic ties," Adani tweeted.
According to Britain's leading newspaper Daily Mirror Mr. Gautam Adani arrived in Sri Lanka on Sunday night along with a 10-member delegation.
Last month, Adani Group entered into an agreement with the Government of Sri Lanka owned port authority to develop the Colombo port's WCT. The deal is considered to be the largest foreign investment ever in the port sector of the island nation as the deal is of $ 700 million build-operate-transfer.
Earlier, the Foreign Minister S Jaishankar had too visited the Colombo to get the WCT in lieu of the scrapped project.
Reportedly, the Group is also exploring investment opportunities in Sri Lanka's renewable energy sector.
According to a senior official of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) of the Sri Lankan government, the investments can be made in the wind energy sector.
He further said that the group visited the Mannar in the North Eastern district on Monday and inspected the wind farm there.
