Amul Reacts After Viral Video Claims to Found Traces of Fungus in Lassi Pack, Calls it ‘Fake’

Popular beverage company Amul released a statement in response to a video showing allegedly lassi pack tainted with fungus.

NEW DELHI: ‘Amul’ of The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) released a statement on Thursday in response to a video showing allegedly contaminated lassi packages. The social media video clip gone viral shows the package becoming contaminated with fungus before its expiration date. When the packet was opened in the alleged video, a layer of green fungus was visible.

On the other hand, the dairy company, however, referred to the video as "fake" and said that it was "being used to create misinformation" regarding Amul products. It brought attention to the fact that the packets seen in the video exhibit liquid leaks and damage close to the straw hole region. Amul stated that the damage visible in the video was the direct cause of the fungal growth found in these packets, and it is probable that the film's creator is aware of this.

According to the official statement of Amul, This is for your kind information that a fake message is being forwarded on WhatsApp and social media platforms regarding inferior quality of Amul Lassi. The creator of the video has not contacted us for clarification, nor the location has been disclosed.”

It further stated that, “We wish to assure you that Amul Lassi is made at our state-of-the art dairies and undergo strict quality checks for product quality and integrity of packaging".

Amul also claimed that, “We noticed in the video that the packs are damaged from the straw hole area. It can also be seen in the video that liquid is leaking from this hole. The fungus development in these packs are due to this hole which the maker of the video is most probably aware of.”

Recently, Cadbury's Bournvita's health claims came under fire in a de-influencing film with Revant Himatsingka. In response, the business sent Himatsingka a legal notice disputing the claims.

For what was deemed to be a disproportionate response to a viral video Cadbury received harsh criticism. The National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights, an organisation that advocates for children's rights, even demanded that the business remove all of its "misleading" advertisements.
