Gold And Silver Prices Witness Fall On Dhanteras

Silver futures were down 0.22 per cent or Rs 141 at Rs 64,650 per kg. Gold is cheaper by Rs 8,371 from last year's high of Rs 56,200 per 10 grams.

New Delhi: On the auspicious day of Dhanteras, the prices of Gold and Silver witnessed fall in the country.

On Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold futures fell by 0.15 per cent, or Rs 74, to Rs 47,829 per 10 grams. Silver futures were down 0.22 per cent or Rs 141 at Rs 64,650 per kg. Gold is cheaper by Rs 8,371 from last year's high of Rs 56,200 per 10 grams.

According to the Indian Bullion and Jewelers Association (IBJA), gold with highest purity was sold at Rs 47,776 per 10 grams and silver at Rs 64,368 per kg in the spot market on Monday. The spot price of gold has remained stable for the past two weeks, while silver has gained around Rs 2,000 per kg.

Ravi Singh, Vice President and Head of Research, Share India said that 'Dhanteras' is an important Hindu festival, when people usually buy gold and silver in the form of jewellery and utensils.

"This year, we are expecting an increase in the sales of gold and silver jewellery. There are also a lot of offers and discounts in the market by the jewelers to attract the customers,'' he added.

Coming to the global market, spot gold was down 0.2 per cent at $ 1,789.58 an ounce. US gold futures fell 0.2 per cent to $1,791.50. Spot silver fell 0.2 per cent to USD 23.98 an ounce. On the other hand, Platinum was down 0.7 per cent at $1,056.58, while palladium was flat at $2,047.26.
