New Delhi: In a bid to collaborate for development of 6G technology and promote entrepreneurship, Jio's Estonia branch has signed an agreement with University of Oulu.

The agreement with the Estonia-based university is expected to extend Jio's 5G capabilities and will help explore use cases in the 6G era.

According to reports by Mint, the university and Reliance Jio in a joint statement on Thursday said that the partnership will bring together a world of expertise from both industry and academia in a range of areas including aerial and space communication, holographic beamforming, cyber security the, and 3D connected intelligence in microelectronics.

''Entrepreneurship will be promoted by bringing together a level pool,'' the statement added.

The statement further said that 5G enables faster speeds, lower latency and greater capacity for data networks. In addition, 5G also helps enable virtual network deployment through large-scale machine-type communications and network slicing.

''6G is built on top of 5G. Both of these will be present and will be of use to both the consumer and the enterprise,'' it added.

Ayush Bhatnagar, Senior Vice President, Jio Platforms, said that the early investment in 6G research and capabilities with the University of Oulu will benefit Jio Lab's capabilities in 5G and enable 6G to come into existence.
