MITRA Scheme To Provide Employment To 21 Lakh People, Let's Look At It

Presenting the union budget 2021-22, the Government had proposed Mega Investment Textiles Parks (MITRA) scheme to make textile industry globally competitive.

New Delh: In the last cabinet meeting which was held on October 6 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, many big decisions were taken in the meeting and one of such was the approval of Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (MITRA) Scheme.

On the same day, while interacting with media after the meeting, Union Minister Piyush Goyal informed that the said scheme has been approved in the cabinet meeting. According to him, around Rs 4,445 crore will be spent on this scheme.

What is MITRA Scheme?

Presenting the union budget 2021-22, the Government had proposed Mega Investment Textiles Parks (MITRA) scheme to make textile industry globally competitive.

Under this scheme, the government to built 7 textile parks in the country worth Rs 17,000 crore which will give employment to 21 lakh people including both direct and indirect employment. Governments of Assam, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh had expressed their interest in this.

How the Scheme will help?

While explaining the scheme, the Goyal had given an example like Cotton which is grown in Maharashtra and Gujarat have to travel to Tamil Nadu, where spinning takes place and after that it goes to Rajasthan and Gujarat for processing. In the same way, the garments are manufactured in Bangalore, Delhi-NCR and Kolkata and just for export, these garments travel to Kandla and Mumbai. So, these will be resolved with the help of MITRA Scheme.

7 lakh people to get direct employment

As per the government, it will give employement to 7 lakh people directly whereas 14 lakh people will get indirect employment.

Goyal giving more information on this, had said that these parks will be set up in those states which will provide labour easily as well as water and cheap land. Besides this the government will also see whether there is a demand for the textiles or not.

Parks will be built in Greenfield or brownfield place

Goyal had said that the textile park will be built in Brownfield or greenfield places located in different states. 500 crore would be provided to develop all green field parks. On the other hand, Rs 200 crore will be allocated for the development of brownfield park.
