GUWAHATI: National Sustainable Spice Program (NSSP), an
initiative jointly undertaken by the World Spice Organization (WSO), the
technical arm of All India Spices Exporters Forum), Spices Board India, IDH -
The Sustainable Trade Initiative and GIZ Global Project - Private Business
Action for Biodiversity - conducted a webinar for the benefit of the spice
farming community in North Eastern States on June 15. The webinar highlighted
the field level interventions proposed by NSSP aimed at improving farmer
livelihood through capacity building program. It also calls for active
participation of Farmer Producing Organization (FPOs), Aggregator
entrepreneurs, processors, retailers, exporters and government agencies. The
webinar was well attended by 246 participants comprising of all stakeholders in
the industry.
WSO chairman Ramkumar Menon extended a warm welcome to all the participants and briefed on the NSSP Project which covers 5 major spices cultivated in India and aims at improving food safety and sustainability and also increasing market linkage opportunities to the farmers.
Spices Board secretary D Sathiyan IFS delivered the keynote address and shared information on various programs initiated by Spices Board India to benefit farmers of NE States. He also suggested the spices farmers to aggregate into spice producer societies, farmer producer organizations, spice farmer producer companies or export clusters so that more efficient intervention from government can be ensure, stated a press release.
