Reliance Jio continued to dominate the revenue market share in Assam, with an increase in its quarterly revenue for the 4th Quarter of FY 18-19 ending March 2019, as per data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
In Assam, Jio has consolidated its revenue market share (RMS) leadership at 38.6 percent in Q4 improving from the last quarter at 37.9 percent. It is worth mentioning that the RMS for Jio in Assam has increased from 24.5 percent over the corresponding quarter of last year. RMS of Airtel has dropped to 35.8 percent and Vodafone Idea to 20.3 percent as of Q4 FY 2018-19. Nationally Jio surpassed Airtel to become the number 2 RMS leader with 30.7% share while Airtel at 29.1% RMS.
Jio has been able to garner its market leadership in Assam through a robust 4G LTE network deployment covering more than 95 percent of the total population, 217 Towns and more than 24432 villages in Assam, with 26% of more sites compared to the nearest competitor and additional planned sites, which will further increase coverage to 99 percent population. Apart from the rapid deployment of 4G sites across the State of Assam, Reliance Jio has also set up numerous Jio Points across rural towns to reach out and service the rural population of the State at their doorstep, in addition to Jio Centers in the district headquarters, Jio Digital Express Mini Stores & Digital Stores for servicing their customers.
Comparison of the recent subscriber data published by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for March 2019 with that of March 2018 reveals that Reliance Jio increased the most customer base in Assam during FY 2018-19. Subscriber base of Reliance Jio increased from 35.28 Lacs in March 2018 to 62.23 Lacs in March 2019 with net addition of 26.95 Lacs customers. Next highest net addition of 5.96 Lacs customers was done by BSNL, followed by Airtel with 3.84 Lacs and Vodafone Idea combined added 3.77 lacs customers during FY 2018-19. As on March 2019 Subscriber Base of Airtel stood at 81.88 Lacs, Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) at 59.93 lacs and BSNL at 25.6 Lacs customer. At the beginning of the financial year the customer market share (CMS) of Reliance Jio was 19 percent and it has been continuously increasing and now stands at CMS of 29 percent. Nationally out of 22 service areas during the month of March, 2019, only six service areas showed positive growth in their wireless subscribers and Assam service area showed Maximum growth of 2.46% and Bihar service area showed a maximum decline (4.52%) in their wireless subscriber during the month.
