Guwahati: Along with the highly demanded 'expiring message' feature, WhatsApp is soon going to add the option of muting groups chats 'forever'.
More than often we get added to WhatsApp groups and sometimes ones we cannot leave- like family WhatsApp groups where you receive a slew of 'Good Morning' messages and forwards every day, or a chat group with colleagues and friends who would rather not talk to.
The conundrum of leaving these WhatsApp groups is such that we end up staying in these groups, albeit with the chats on mute to avoid dealing with them.
The current WhatsApp update lets us mute one-on-one and group chats for either eight hours, one week or one year at the most. Once the mute period is over, we have to mute the chats again or be bombarded by dozens of texts. Although it is not too much of a task, it is slightly annoying.
To make things easier, WhatsApp is set to roll out the option for users to mute chats forever. The update is currently in beta testing, and will replace the option for muting chats for one year with the option of "Always".
The information was spotted by WABetaInfo and the screenshot shared by the forum shows that the options for eight hour and one-week mute are still present, but the new addition of the 'Always' option can mute groups forever.
Once released, users can mute individual and group chats for forever and not worry about renewing the mute option after a period of one year. Users can still unmute the groups if they want to.
WABetaInfo informed that the feature is currently 'underdevelopment' and should roll out soon.
