Having seen the circular of SSA and RMSA of Assam ordering teachers to take online classes through giochat and giomeet during the lockdown period, one question comes to everyone's mind — how many government school students have smart phones in their houses? It as clear as daylight that parents lying below the poverty line mostly send their wards to government schools. It is impossible for many of them to buy smart phones by spending a few thousands rupees. Even if some of them can buy smart phones, regular recharging of net pack will be an additional burden they will have to stagger under. In such a situation, it will be very difficult for teachers to regularly get in touch with their students. Moreover, most of the teachers and students are not expert enough to handle smart phones. Before passing a circular, the department should look into such matters. Both teachers and students should be imparted training digitally. At the same time, the government should provide a smart phone to each of government school student so as to make him/her able the avail the benefits of digital education.
