Health worker's plea

Durga Puja festival of 2020 ends with COVID-19 shadow but crowds of people have been seen in many places which are extremely dangerous. Everyone knows that the Government can't win the battle alone. Why the people of Assam are unaware of COVID-19 protocol such as wearing masks, avoiding large gathering, maintaining physical distance, etc. We, the health workers sometimes face some unintentional problems while explaining the COVID-19 protocol to the people. Sometimes it is as if some people show difficulty and ask us the opposite question in this context. Whatever, I say firmly disobeying the COVID-19 protocol is a threat to our society. In this letter, I urge the people of Assam to be careful and abide by the COVID-19 protocol or else we may be in danger in the future.

They need love only

The menace of discarding elderly parents who spend their life and exhaust all resources in bringing up their offspring is difficult to understand. Elders need only a few words of love and affection and a warm touch to get enthused. Nobody can repay parents for the sacrifices they make for their children. It is the duty of everyone to look after the elders so that they do not feel lonely.

Capping Majuli

Dr Pitambar Dev Goswami – the Xatradhikar of Auniati Xatra, Majuli observed that development on erosion prevention front is not up to the mark. On November 7, 2020 he urged for protection of Majuli from erosion through construction of some permanent and scientific erosion prevention works like stone spurs.

Over the years, many schemes were taken up and hundreds and thousands of rupees have been spent for preventing erosion in Majuli but without much success. One of the answers to the erosion problem may be the capping of the island at its upper-most tip through construction of two dykes. The dykes should be constructed in such a way that the vertex of which is in upstream and parallel to the general flow of water and each dyke is tangent to the widest points in the middle portion of the island. The overall shape of the construction is to be similar to the front side of a country boat or a ship to minimize the impact of water current on the dykes.
