Necessity of sanitization

Through this column of your esteemed newspaper I would like to draw the attention of the authorities concerned regarding sanitation in the Bharalu area in Guwahati. The locality seems to receive little or no attention from the Municipal Corporation. The roads are infrequently scoured and watered. These are not only affecting the roads but also the pedestrians. Flies are found and these help mosquitoes breed. It will be harmful for all residents of the colony. Many children and elders are suffering from fever because of this situation. I request the authority concerned to do the needful.

Very confusing

The audio clip of Minister Pijush Hazarika and a journalist from a news channel, Praditin Time, has gone viral. For people like us it's very confusing to ascertain as to who is right and who is wrong. Definitely the point of suspicion of needle points towards the politician, but at the same time it's hard to give a clean chit to the two journalists. Nowadays it is very hard to get clean journalists, and an equally hard is to get honest politicians. After I listened to the uncut and original version of Aimee Barua (Pijush Hazarika's wife) it has become clear that the two journalists of Praditin Time manipulated the video and presented it in their own suitable way. Of course, the language used by the BJP leader is condemnable. Old habits (Congress) die hard. At the same breathe, we condemn yellow journalism.

Spitting habit

Through this column of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the attention of the authorities to the act of spitting in public places. It can be seen among the young generation and also the elderly people who chew tobacco, gutkha etc., spit here and there. The newly painted walls, foot bridges etc., everywhere are stained with spittle. It looks ugly and also the surroundings become dirty. Students perform anti-spitting campaigns using posters and street plays.

It is our duty to keep our city neat and clean. And this type of act should need to be stopped in public places.

WFM option

Many businesses and employers are now opting to a complete social distancing norm by adopting the 'Work From Home' (WFH) strategy owing to the COVID-19 crisis. The WFH option, erstwhile considered to be a niche choice for some of the employees in the IT sector, is now witnessing robust usage across all the sectors. WFH implementation has witnessed a boost in productivity and efficiency while contributing to reduced carbon emissions and clean air.

WFH now as an enabler will also help employees to maintain work-life balance as the same promotes zero carbon emissions and thus causes lesser traffic jams in cities due to reduced mobility. Employees no longer need to work hard to reach the office, and thus otherwise get affected by the office environment to boost productivity.

The new working pattern has created ample opportunities to work remotely thereby benefiting both the employees and employers to achieve efficiency. Hence until the pandemic settles down, the WFH option should be exploited to its fullest extent and thus make optimum utilization of talent and skills contributed by employees to the business.

Airfare

It is a bad news that air travel will now become expensive as the Government has decided to increase the lower limit on airfares by 5 per cent amid rising aviation turbine fuel prices. I would like to request the Civil Aviation Minister as well as the Prime Minister to intervene in the matter in the wake of COVID-19 spike and the ensuing Assembly election in four States and one Union Territory.
