Guwahati: Forbes magazine released its annual tally of the world's highest-paid male movie stars on Tuesday and wrestler-turned-movie star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson topped the list for a second straight year.

Among the top 10 actors on the list is also Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, a surprise entrant. He secured the sixth place with earnings of $48.5 million (Rs 362 crores). According to Forbes, most of his income came from product endorsements of everything from multivitamins to toilet cleaners.

Kumar is now working on his first television series called The End for Amazon Prime.

Akshay Kumar is considered as one of the most bankable stars in Bollywood and his films always earn in triple digits.

By May of 2020, his films had earned close to 700 crores in a single calendar year.

According to Forbes, the actor earns anywhere between Rs 35 to 75 crore from a single film.

Apart from his films and advertisement deals, Kumar earns a good deal of money from his production house ventures.

Going back to the top earner in the list, Dwayne Johnson earned $87.5 million from June 1, 2019 to June 1, 2020, including $23.5 million from Netflix Inc to star in movie thriller Red Notice.

He also earned from his Project Rock fitness wear line for Under Armour Inc.

Ryan Reynolds, who co-stars with Johnson in the upcoming Red Notice, came in second in the Forbes ranking. He earned $20 million for that film, plus another $20 million for Netflix movie Six Underground, as part of his $71.5 million total for the one-year period.

Actor and producer Mark Wahlberg, who starred in the Netflix action-comedy Spenser Confidential, finished third with $58 million.

Following Wahlberg are actors Ben Affleck with $55 million and Vin Diesel with $54 million.

Although Adam Sandler is not considered a high grossing star, the Saturday Night Live funnyman too raked in a proper amount of money via his 2020 release of Uncut Gems. Hailed by fans and critics alike, the Safdie brothers directed film earned only $51 million but Sandler ranked nine on Forbes' list based on his Netflix deal. The streaming giant paid Sandler $31 million, a whopping 75% of what he made all year, as part of his four-film deal of $250 million signed in 2014. Netflix users have streamed more than 2 billion hours of the actor, which led to a fresh deal signed in January which is reportedly worth more than the first.

Other actors on the list include Lin-Manuel Miranda, who found himself on the Forbes list for the first time after Disney acquired film rights for the Broadway production of Hamilton for $75 million, Will Smith and Jackie Chan.

Earnings estimates are based on data from Nielsen, ComScore, Box Office Mojo, and IMDB, as well as interviews with industry insiders. All figures are pretax and reflect earnings between June 1, 2019, and June 1, 2020; fees for agents, managers, and lawyers (generally 10%, 15% and 5%, respectively) are not deducted.
