MUMBAI: Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, whose Canadian citizenship had previously drawn criticism, has now disclosed that he has requested a change in passport because India is his home.

"To me, India is everything...All I have acquired and gained comes from this place. And I'm fortunate to have the opportunity to return the favour. You feel horrible when people speak without understanding," the actor said.

Known for his roles in movies like Hera Pheri, Namastey London, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, and Padman, Akshay Kumar also discussed a difficult period in his career when he produced more than 15 duds. This took place in the 1990s.

The actor claimed that his films' underwhelming box office results motivated him to ask for Canadian citizenship.

"Bhai, my films aren't working, and one has to work to earn, so I thought of moving to Canada and work there. My friend, who is in Canada, said, "Come here." I applied, and I was accepted.”

Akshay told that he only had two films left to release, and it was pure luck that both of them were huge successes. He further mentioned that one of his friends told him after the hit that "Go back and resume working,"

Akshay further said that he continued to receive more films and jobs and he neglected to use his passport.

“Although I had never considered doing so, I have now submitted an application to have my passport changed”, the actor mentioned.

Following an interview with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April 2019, right before the Lok Sabha elections, Akshay Kumar's citizenship came under discussion.

Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddique, who is known for his mesmerising acting skills and presentation on screen, was on the buzz due to his ongoing controversy with his wife. Siddique’s wife Aaliya Siddique accused him along with his family for physical and domestic violence. Mumbai court had also issued a notice against the actor regarding the same allegations.
