Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Saif Ali Khan issued a statement to apologise for his comments on his upcoming film Adipurush. Saif Ali Khan made a comment that the film Adipurush will show the 'humane' side of Ravana. He said, "It's interesting to play a demon king, less strictures in that. But we will make him humane, up the entertainment quotient, justify his abduction of Sita and the war with Ram as revenge for what was done to his sister Surpanakha by Lakshman, who cut off his nose."

However, Saif Ali Khan's comments did not go well after the interview. His fans on social media also called for a complete boycott of his new film Adipurush.

The film Adipurush is directed by Om Raut, and the lead role is played by Prabhas. It is a 3D action drama. The film celebrates the victory of good over evil. Adipurush will hit the screens on August 11, 2022.

The comment of Saif, however, has attracted a lot of attention from the right-wing leaders. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ram Kadam issued a statement where he said that the party would not tolerate if any attempts are made to hurt the sentiments of the Hindus.

BJP leader Ram Kadam tweeted, "Actor #SaifAliKhan makes an extremely shocking statement regarding his forthcoming film Adipurush. Saif who plays Ravan's character says Ravan's abduction of Sita Maa will be justified in the film. Ravan's humane side will be shown and his war against Sri Ram will be justified."

Saif Ali Khan's apology statement read, "I've been made aware that one of my statements during an interview, has caused controversy and hurt people's sentiments. This was never my intention or meant that way. I would like to sincerely apologise to everybody and withdraw my statement. Lord Ram has always been the symbol of Righteousness & Heroism for me. Adipurush is about celebrating the victory of good over evil and the entire team is working together to present the epic without any distortions."
