Mumbai: Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan starring Cooli No. 1 has become the second lowest-rated movie on the online rating platform Internet Movie Database (IMDb).

Surpassing Bollywood duds such as Race 3, Himmatwala and others, however, the David Dhawan directed comedy flick has received the lowest ratings after this year's Sadak 2 with 1.3/10 star rating.

Cooli No. 1 is a remake of the eponymous 1995 movie starring Govinda and Karishma Kapoor.

The movie is about a coolie named Raju who fakes his identity as a filthy rich guy to marry the daughter of a rich businessman.

Coolie No. 1, was released on Amazon Prime Video this Friday, has 23,000 audience ratings on IMDb. Despite the rating, Amazon claims it has registered the streamer's biggest opening of the year. Perhaps it will ease the blow for the makers a little to know that it is still not the worst-rated film of the year.

Sadak 2, which was released on Disney+Hotstar in August has a rating of 1.0.

The film has received largely negative reviews from critics as well. Bollywood actor Shikha Talsania, who also stars in the film reacted to the negative response. She said, "Entertainment can be different for different people. A certain kind of humour works for me, while another doesn't. But, I can choose to watch what I enjoy."

Previously lead actress Sara Ali Khan was asked in an interview about the 'problematic' aspects of the original film, in which Govinda's character cons Karishma character into falling for him, which is replicated in the remake as well.

She said that if one views everything through a politically correct lens, 'any scope of humour in our lives will be lost."

Netizens were also quick to respond to the movie on Twitter.
