MUMBAI: Bollywood actor John Abraham shared the release date of his upcoming film "Satyameva Jayate 2" on social media today.

Abraham shared the film's release date on social media on the occasion of the country's 72nd Republic Day. The 48-year-old actor took to Twitter to share a photo in which he is seen wearing a white kurta-pyjamas along with a turban and holding the National flag.

Sharing the photo, Abraham wrote, "Tann Mann Dhann, se Badhkar Jann Gann Mann! The team of #SatyamevaJayate2 wishes everyone a Happy Republic Day! See you in cinemas this EID on 14th May 2021."

The new film is a sequel to the 2018 hit Satyameva Jayate which was directed by Milap Milan Zaveri. The prequel was set in Mumbai with John Abraham playing the role of a corrupt cop killing vigilante and Manoj Bajpayee playing the role of the honest cop trying to hunt him down.

Satyameva Jayate 2 will see Abraham fighting corruption in Lucknow. He will be reprising his role from the prequel. The sequel has been scheduled for a May 14, 2021 release. The Milap Zaveri-directed film also features Divya Khosla Kumar and will be produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series and Emmay Entertainment.

Shooting for the film began in October 2020 in Lucknow. Some scenes were also shot in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh.

Last week, actor Salman Khan had said his much-awaited film "Radhe - Your Most Wanted Bhai" will arrive in theatres on May 13 this year coinciding with Eid. Directed by Prabhudheva, the action drama was scheduled to hit screens during Eid on May 22, 2020, but was delayed due to the pandemic.

Satyameva 2 will clash at the theatres with the Salman Khan starrer Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai. Salman Khan's films have always drawn in huge crowds, meanwhile Satyameva Jayate too had a good run in the theatres, earning a net total collection of 1,082 million rupees in India and 146.9 million at the overseas box office, so the fate of both films remain to be seen.
