Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan's upcoming film, Super 30, will hit the theatres on July 12, yet even days before the release, the film has been buried in controversies - the most recent one is the alleged 'brownface' of the lead on-screen actor, Hrithik Roshan. Actor Mrunal Thakur who features opposite to Hrithik in the film has now defended the decision.
Speaking to the media, the Super 30 co-star Mrunal Thakur said that the dark complexion was required in the film. Mrunal Thakur was cited as saying: "I might think it was required for the character. At whatever point I saw Hrithik in his dark complexion, I would finish up calling him Anand and not Hrithik. At the point when individuals see the film, they will understand why it was necessary. In Love Sonia (2018), the makers of the film make me three or four shades darker, and it worked."

When the trailer of the film, in which Hrithik will be seen playing the math wizard from Bihar, Anand Kumar, was disclosed, social media rushed to pummel it, saying that it just strengthened the class- colour generalization. Patna-based Anand is well known for helping youngsters from underprivileged sections to crack the elite IIT JEE exams.
When the MeToo controversy hit Bollywood, Hrithik's Super 30, as well, got destroyed after its director Vikas Bahl was called out over sexual harassment. In the repercussions of the Me Too controversy, Vikas' name was dropped from the film's credit however was later reinstated after his name was cleared by an inner inquiry board of Reliance Entertainment, one of the makers of the film.
Meanwhile, it looks like it’ll be Kangana Ranaut versus Hrithik Roshan at the box workplace in July. As per the reports, the makers of Mental Hai Kya, which stars Kangana and Rajkummar Rao within the lead, have pushed the release of the film from June to July 26. That’s the same date when Hrithik Roshan’s Super 30 is scheduled to hit the screens.
According to the media report, quoting nameless sources says that Mental Hai Kya, that was scheduled to unleash on June 21, will hit the screens on July 26, same as Super 30. Hrithik’s film was earlier scheduled to open on Republic Day that is January 26. However, after makers of Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, picked the constant date for the release of Rani of Jhansi biopic, Super 30’s release was pushed to July 26. Pending post-production work was mentioned as the reason.
