New Delhi: Popular video streaming platform Netflix is planning to charge its customers, who often share their passwords with people even outside their homes.
According to a post published by the company, it will ask such people to pay an additional fee to keep using Netflix. Interestingly, this move of the company will be a big setback for those users, who have been sharing Netflix passwords with the members of their household as well as outside.
''Accounts are being shared between households – impacting our ability to invest in great new TV and films for our members," the company said in a post.
The post by the company further revealed that the Netflix is currently preparing to test two new features in Chile, Costa Rica and Peru which will change how passwords are shared between accounts.
During the trial, Netflix will offer the option to add more viewers to its package at a discounted price, in addition to transferring the ability to view profiles to new accounts or the primary account.
The company will take any concrete step in this direction only after testing. At present, the company will work on this plan in the mentioned countries only.
Notably, Netflix has also recently increased the prices of its subscriptions for the UK and Ireland. According to reports, the video streaming giant has around 14 million subscribers in the UK and 600,000 in Ireland.
The company has increased the prices in these countries for the time being, so Indian users do not need to worry. However, in India it will still be available at the old prices.
