‘They Portrayed As If Sushant Singh Rajput Had Mental Issues’: Writer Apurva Asrani

MUMBAI: Many people have begun relate Priyanka Chopra's experience with being "cornered" in the industry after she spoke out about it to what Sushant Singh Rajput may have gone through in Bollywood.

Apurva Asrani, a screenwriter and editor, adds to this by claiming that Sushant was written off by those in the business who didn't want to see him develop. He claims that he was cornered in the same way that Priyanka was at the height of her fame in a series of fresh statements.

He claimed that despite having delivered several great successes, the late actor was made to appear ineffective by being passed over at award ceremonies. "Sushant was overlooked for awards. Although his most recent movie made a staggering 100 crores, critics predicted it a failure. Despite the fact that he was speaking intelligently, many mistook his remarks for mental illness.”

He continued by saying that a group of individuals from Bollywood banded together and used their clout with journalists to paint him as having behavioural problems. The worst aspect is that we could hardly see the reality because he was harangued until the very end”, he claimed.

Asrani further asserted that this is a vicious cycle and that individuals in Bollywood abuse their connections with the media to achieve their own objectives. Priyanka Chopra previously said that she was vilified at parties and that she felt cornered in the industry while speaking at a global event.

When Asrani heard about it, he responded, "Anybody who is outspoken, who refuses to be insulted, who doesn't demean themselves by subscribing to their retrograde notions, they are forced into a corner." He continued by outlining how false media stories during Priyanka's successful time threatened her career.
