Peaky Blinders, the award-winning historical gangster saga, has been on hiatus since its sixth season ended just over a year ago.

The BBC released the first trailer for Season 6 today; giving the series' devoted global following a New Year's gift.

The premiere date has not been set, however, it has been hinted at for early 2022.

Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy, comes returning in search of a way to put the namesake Birmingham-based dynasty to rest. Tom Hardy, Paul Anderson, Finn Cole, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Sophie Rundle are among the returning cast members. Stephen Graham also makes an appearance. Helen McCrory, a co-star, died in April of this year. In the trailer published today, the fate of her Aunt Polly is not revealed, fans are curious to know more about her.

"Peaky is returning and with a boom," creator and writer Steven Knight have remarked of the sixth season. Following the forced production halt caused by the Covid pandemic in the world, we find the family in grave danger, with the stakes never being higher. We are confident that this will be the best series of all time, and that our adoring fans will enjoy it. While the TV show will be ending, the story will continue in a different way."

Shelby, claims, just had one purpose in mind: to amass wealth, but when he faces Nazism, something in him is reawakened, and he believes it is good and bad.

"As a result, he devotes his time to fighting it." And that trend continues in Series 6, with a slew of new events for Tommy that the audience won't see coming. With each series, I believe the writing task becomes more focused. I've said it before, but each time I've believed it to be true. And this time, I believe it's true: this is the best yet." Steven Knight added.

Knight writes the sixth season of Peaky Blinders, while Anthony Byrne returns as director after praise for season five, and Nick Goding produces. Caryn Mandabach, Steven Knight, Jamie Glazebrook, David Mason, Anthony Byrne, and Cillian Murphy serve as executive producers.

The popular drama debuted on BBC eight years ago, receiving a BAFTA for Best Drama in its fourth season, before moving to BBC One in 2019 with over 7 million viewers. It is streaming on Netflix
