NEW DELHI: Hip-hop musicians Sez on the Beat and Ab 17 from New Delhi have just dropped a brand-new song called "TEZ FILAM" via THE MVMNT/Mass Appeal India.
It provides listeners with insight into a seedy and marginalised area in southwest Delhi where thieves and criminals are allowed to roam.
'TEZ FILAM' is an expression of Ab 17's wish to get out safely and a social critique from his perspective.
The lyrics express the conflict between loving his hometown and being afraid of the violence and depravity he frequently sees there. You can hear the album here.
Ab 17 made a big splash in the music industry after the New Delhi pair Seedhe Maut, who served as judges for the competition, stumbled upon him on the 2021 Breezer Vivid Shuffle online edition.
Soon after, Ab 17 was given a feature on Sez on the Beat and Seedhe Maut's highly regarded 2022 album "Nayaab."
Since then, Ab 17 has signed with THE MVMNT, a hip hop label that Sez on the Beat co-founded, and together with the rest of the roster—Sez on the Beat, Yungsta, DAKAIT, and Aniket Raturi—will perform his new songs at Simba Uproar in New Delhi on November 20 and then at Bacardi NH7 Weekender in Pune on November 27—will perform his songs.
The man responsible for the sound of Indian hip-hop is credited as Sez on the Beat.
In the movie "Gully Boy," the song "Mere Gully Mein," which served as the catalyst for the mainstreaming of Indian hip-hop, was composed by him.
He was chosen to be a part of the 'Up Next' India programme for Apple Music in 2022, a programme that supports and recognises regional musicians all over the world.
In addition to establishing a new chapter in Indian hip hop with THE MVMNT, Sez on the Beat has produced songs for some of the biggest stars in India, including DIVINE, Naezy, Raftaar, Badshah, and Ikka, to mention a few.
THE MVMNT is an Indian artist group. Sez on the Beat, a producer of hip-hop music, and music businessman Faizan Khan formed it together.
THE MVMNT as a group has released 7 singles, 4 EPs, and 1 full-length album on their own label. THE MVMNT announced a collaboration with Mass Appeal India in 2022.
