Air India Flight Returns Back To Delhi After Ukraine Closes Airspace Citing High Risk

NEW DELHI: Amid the Russian military operations in the eastern breakaway areas of Ukraine, the country has shut down its airspace as a result of which the Air India plane had to return back to Delhi.

An Air India aircraft had flown to Ukraine with the purpose of bringing back the Indians as the currently going on Ukraine and Russian war has adversely affected the lives of many. The Indian flight is awaited by thousands of Indians to fly back home from Ukraine.

On Monday 21 February, Russia has recognized 2 separatist regions in Ukraine as independent nations and on Thursday morning the President of the country Vladimir Putin directed the Russian Special forces to start operating in those areas.

On Thursday 24 February, at the time when numerous planes were heading towards Ukraine, a notice was served to all the aircraft after which Air India took the decision to return back towards India's capital Delhi.

In the previous week, Air India has made several round trips to Ukraine so that it brings home the Indian safely. at the time when COVID-19 lockdown was imposed in the country, Air India has flown numerous missions as 'Vande Bharat' to deport and resettle Indians.

It is informed that the commercial planes will be at high risk because of large-scale military operations in eastern Ukraine and due to the disorder in airspace which is expected to be crowded with military anti-craft operations.

Indians in Ukraine had complained about the high price for their homeward bound planes as they cost more than Rupees 1 lakh for each ticket. However, the country has provided a 24 hours helpline service for all Indians.

As the airspace in the eastern European nation has been closed, now many of the airlines earlier planned to fly to Ukraine are likely to cancel their decision.

On Tuesday 22 February, Vinod Khanna the CEO of Vistara Airlines informed that it has no plan of operating planes to Ukraine.
