OTTAWA: Reports from Canada reaching here said that a Hindu temple was desecrated by vandals in the late hours of Saturday in Canada by Khalistani extremist elements, with posters mentioning the Khalistan referendum,

A report published in Australia Today informed that the incident happened in British Columbia province in Canada.

#Breaking Another #Hindu temple vandalised in #Canada by #Khalistan extremists – bogus #Khalistanreferendum posters put at door of @surreymandir to create fear among #Indian community,” Australia Today said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The content of the posters, which was shared by Australia Today, read “Canada investigates the role of India in June 18th assassination”.

The video of the incident in the Hindu temple in British Columbia province in Canada has also gone viral on social media platforms.

The viral video shared by news outlets in Australia purportedly shows two masked men in the act of pasting the posters on the temple gate and taking photos of their handiwork, before fleeing from the scene.

The poster on the temple gate referred to NIA- designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, and also included the picture of the Khalistan Tiger Force chief and India’s designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was reported to have been killed in June this year.

Significantly, this is not the first time such an attack was made on a Hindu temple in Canada. There are reports of multiple such incidents, which have been reportedly carried out by the Khalistani extremists. Moreover, several of such incidents were also recorded within this year itself.

India had lodged strong protests with Canada against such acts and urged the Canadian government to deal with a heavy hand against such extremist elements.

Earlier, in April this year, BAPS Swaminarayan temple was reported to have been vandalised with anti-India graffiti in Windsor in Ontario of Canada.

In February, the Ram Mandir in Canada's Mississauga was also vandalised with similar anti-India graffiti. At that time, the Consulate General of India in Toronto had condemned the defacing of the temple and requested Canadian authorities to investigate the incident, urging the Canadian authorities to take prompt action against the perpetrators.

Also in January this year, a Hindu temple in Brampton was similarly defaced with anti-India graffiti by extremist elements, triggering major outrage among the Indian community in Canada. The Consulate General of India in Toronto, at that time, condemned the vandalism at the Gauri Shankar Mandir in strong terms, stating that the act of desecration of the temple has deeply hurt the sentiments of Canada’s Indian community.
