SAN FRANCISCO: Elon Musk became the owner of the micro-blogging site Twitter on Thursday. He started with the position by firing the top executives whom he accused of misleading him and providing very less clarity on how he can achieve his lofty goals with the highly influential social media platform.

The first order of business taken by the new owner of Twitter, Elon Musk terminated Indian origin Chief Executive Parag Agrawal. Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal and Legal Affairs and Policy Chief Vijaya Gadde, another person of Indian origin, were also fired by the new boss. Elon Musk accused them of giving misleading information about the number of fake accounts on the social media platform to him and other investors.

No details have been given by Elon Musk or anyone else regarding new goals or who will be running the organisation from here on. His mention of further job cuts left the employees of the 7500-strong organisation in a lot of tension. After taking over on Thursday he commented that he did acquire the company to make money but to help humanity grow.

According to sources Parag Agarwal and Neg Segal were at the headquarters of Twitter in San Francisco when the deal was closed. And they were escorted out from the premises.

However, he tried to address the fear of uses about content and assured advertisers that his past criticism of Twitter's content moderation rules would not harm the image of the brand. "Twitter obviously cannot become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences!" he mentioned on Thursday.

He has indicated that the microblogging site to become the foundation for creating a "super app" that will have everything from money transfers to shopping and cab booking.

The brand has however struggled to engage the most active users in recent times. This is a key point for the platform from a financial perspective. These users who account for less than 10% of monthly overall users generate 90% of all tweets and half of global revenue.
