NEW DELHI: Social media giant Facebook has decided to ban the Taliban and all content supporting it from its platforms under its 'Dangerous Organisation Policies'.

"...the Taliban is sanctioned as a terrorist organization under US law and we've banned them from our services under our Dangerous Organisation Policies. This means we remove accounts maintained by/on behalf of the Taliban and ban their praise, support, and representation," an ANI report said, quoting a Facebook spokesperson.

"We also have a dedicated team of Afghanistan experts, who are native Dari and Pashto speakers and have knowledge of local context, helping to identify and alert us about emerging issues on the platform," the spokesperson added.

The US-headquartered social media giant said it does not make decisions about the recognition of national governments but instead follows the "authority of the international community".

The move comes two days after the Taliban entered the Afghan capital and took over presidential powers after the US-backed Afghan government collapsed and President Ghani fled the country. Last week, the Islamic outfit had captured Jalalabad, Herat, and Kandahar provinces of the war-torn country.

This has brought an unprecedented end to a two-decade campaign in which the US and its allies had tried to transform the war-ravaged nation.
