NEW DELHI: Finland has bagged the title of World's happiest country for the fifth successive year on March 18, according to World Happiness Report rankings which is primarily based on life evaluations from the Gallup World Poll.
Finland along with its nordic neighbors such as Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Iceland have also scored well on the measures that the report uses to explain its findings : healthy life expectancy, GDP per capita, social support in times of trouble, low corruption and high social trust, generosity in a community where people look after each other and freedom to make key life decisions.
As per this report, Denmark is placed at No. 2 in this year's rankings, followed by Iceland at No. 3. Sweden and Norway have been ranked seventh and eighth, respectively.
Meanwhile, Switzerland has been ranked No.4, followed by Netherlands at No. 5 and Luxembourg at No. 6. Israel and New Zealand have also made it to the top 10 list with Israel coming in at 9 and New Zealand at 10th.
Canada, United States and United Kingdom have all featured in top 20 with Canada at No. 15, the US at No. 16 followed by the UK at No. 17.
Afghanistan tops the list from bottom with the country ranked as the unhappiest place on Earth, according to the World Happiness Report.
India is ranked at a lowly 136, even below Pakistan, which is placed at 121, on the list. The latest list was concluded before the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The World Happiness Report, which is now in its 10th year, is based on people's own evaluation of their happiness, as well as economic and social data. The report also assigns a happiness score on a scale of zero to 10, based on an average of data over a three-year period.
Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania recorded the biggest boosts in wellbeing. The largest falls in the World Happiness table, released on Friday, came in Lebanon, Venezuela and Afghanistan.
