Harry Potter's Hagrid Passes Away at the Age of 72

LONDON: Fans fall in love with Robbie Coltrane from the very first movie of the popular Harry Potter series when he reluctantly leaves the baby Harry Potter with his uncle and aunt. His sentimental acting and the portrayal of the loving and caring gentle half-giant Hagrid were applauded by many. Another key trait was the love he had for creatures as he protected Harry. Fans from all over the world expressed their sadness over the loss of the actor.

Robbie Coltrane made his television debut on BBC's mini-series named The Lost Tribe (1980) as Border Guwahati. His debut on the large screen was as a limousine driver in Death Watch (1980). His first lead role was as Detective Ftritz Langley in Subway Riders (1981). His career took off in the early 1990s with the role of Dr. Eddie "Fitz" Fitzgerald, a forensic psychologist, in the popular TV series Cracker (1993). For this, he won the best actor award at the British Academy Television Awards three years running. Apart from the popular character of Hagrid in Harry Potter, he was also part of two James Bond movies as a Russian crime lord. Robbie Coltrane got rave reviews for the character of a beloved TV star who may harbor a dark secret in the mini-series National Treasure (2016).

He met Rhona Gemmell in 1988 in a pub and later married her. They had a son Spencer and a daughter named Alice before they split up.

Coltrane's agent Belinda Wright said he died on Friday at a hospital in Scotland. He was born on March 30, 1950, in Scotland. He has been survived by his sister Annie Rae, his ex-wife Rhona Gemmell and his children Spencer and Alice.

Belinda Wright mentions "as well as being a wonderful actor, he was forensically intelligent, brilliantly witty, and after 40 years of being proud to be called his agent, I shall miss him."
