Hong Kong Suspends All Vistara Flights from Mumbai till May 3

Decision taken after 50 patients flying on Vistara flights tested positive for COVID

Hong Kong has suspended all Vistara flights between Mumbai and Hong Kong from April 20 (Tuesday) to May 3 due to the rising number of COVID cases in India.
According to reports, the Hong Kong government announced the suspension of all TATA SIA Airlines (Vistara) flights on the Mumbai-Hong Kong route till May 2 on Sunday morning. Also, the Hong Kong government has suspended flights to and from Pakistan and the Philippines for the same time span.
The decision to suspend the Vistara flights from Mumbai was taken after 50 passengers of two Vistara flights were found COVID positive.
The rules stated that all the passengers who want to come to Hong Kong need to have a COVID-negative RTPCR result with them before 72 hours of their journey.
"The Prevention & Control of Disease Regulation was invoked to prohibit the landing of Cathay Pacific passenger flights from Manila, the Philippines, in Hong Kong, and the landing of passenger flights of TATA SIA Airlines (Vistara) from Mumbai, India, in Hong Kong from April 19 to May 2," the government release stated.
Till Sunday, 47 passengers who were on Vistara's Delhi-Hong Kong flight of April 4 have tested COVID-19 positive in Hong Kong. Earlier, Vistara's flights on the Delhi-Hong Kong route had been banned from April 6 to April 19 this year.
According to the Union Health Ministry data, India recorded 2,73,810 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The highest one-day surge took India's COVID caseload past the 1.5 crore mark. 1,619 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours. Also, there are 19,29,329 active cases in the country at present while 1,29,53,821 people have recovered from the disease. The death toll is at 1,78,769 and 12,38,52,566 people have been vaccinated so far.
