Kuwait City: Kuwait has said that it will expel the expatriates who took part in a demonstration against the derogatory remarks made by suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma on Prophet Muhammad.

The protestors did not abide by the laws and regulations of the country which strictly forbids sit-ins or demonstrations by expatriates in Kuwait and the decision was taken while taking this into cognizance.

The authorities are in the process of "arresting expats and referring them to the deportation centre to be deported to their countries", the report said quoting the media.

It went on to say that the expats who participated in the demonstration will be barred from entering Kuwait again.

All expats residing in Kuwait must respect Kuwaiti laws and refrain from participating in any type of demonstrations, the report said quoting the instructions to authorities.

However, the nationality of the expats who took part in the protests has not been mentioned anywhere in the report.

Meanwhile, the derogatory remarks made by suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma on Prophet Muhammad had triggered massive protests in the Middle east and the Arab nations had summoned the Indian envoys in the region to register strong protests over the issue.

India has distanced itself from the controversial remark made by the BJP spokesperson during a TV news debate and labeled her as "fringe element".

In response to a media query regarding the statement issued by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs on offensive tweets in India, the Spokesperson of the Embassy of India in Kuwait said, "Ambassador Sibi George had a meeting in the Foreign Office in which concerns were raised with regard to some offensive tweets by individuals in India."
