Pakistan Flight with 98 Onboard Crashes over Karachi Residential Complex

Pakistan had finally resumed commercial passenger air travel on May 16 after a coronavirus-triggered lockdown.

Moments before landing, a Pakistan airlines flight that was headed from Lahore to Karachi tragically crashed over the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi on Friday. The plane was carrying 91 passengers and 7 crew members, said reports.

The extent of damage of life is unknown at the moment and there is a strong possibility that residents of the colony where the flight crashed could also have been killed in the crash.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Army has said that its teams have reached the spot to provide relief. DG ISPR Pakistan Army's spokesperson tweeted out, ""Army Quick Reaction Force & Pakistan Rangers Sindh troops reached the incident site for relief and rescue efforts alongside civil administration. Details to follow."

At the same time, the Pakistan Army Aviation helicopters have been flown for damage assessment and rescue efforts. Urban Search & Rescue Teams are being sent on site for rescue efforts, officials informed. PIA spokesperson Abdul Sattar , meanwhile, has also confirmed the crash. Local media also reported that Pakistan's Minister of Health & Population Welfare declared an emergency in the hospitals due to the crash. Meanwhile, a Pakistan-based media channel has claimed that one of its senior members was killed in the crash.
