Sri Lanka Defeats Pakistan By Five Wickets In Super Four Match Of Asia Cup 2022

DUBAI: Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by five wickets in a Super Four match of the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, here, on Friday,.

Pathum Nissanka's 55 not out guided Sri Lanka to the 5-wicket win over Pakistan in Super Four clash as Sri Lanka notched up 124 runs in 17 overs, overhauling Pakistan's 121 target.

Bowling first, Sri Lanka scuttled out Pakistan for 121 in 19.1 overs, with an excellent bowling display by Wanindu Hasaranga (3/21) and Maheesh Theekshana (2/21). In addition to Hasaranga and Theekshana, Sri Lanka's Pramod Madushan (2/21), Chamika Karunaratne (1/4), and Dhananjaya de Silva (1/18) were the other prominent bowlers. Sri Lanka were 124 for 5 at close of match.

For Pakistan, Babar Azam (30 off 29) and Mohammad Nawaz (26 off 18) were the leading scorers.

Pathum Nissanka, Sri Lanka's opener, blasted a superb unbeaten half-century (55 not out off 48) as the team chased down a modest target to win easily. Sri Lanka chased down the target in 17 overs, with five wickets in hand. Bhanuka Rajapaksa (24 off 19) and Dasun Shanaka (21 off 16) also contributed significant knocks.

Pakistan's chief wicket-takers were Haris Rauf (2/19), Mohammad Hasnain (2/21) and Usman Qadir (1/34).

Briefly, Sri Lanka scored 124-5 in 17 overs (Pathum Nissanka 55 not out, Bhanuka Rajapaksa 24; Haris Rauf 2/19) defeating Pakistan by five wickets after the latter scored 121 all out in 19.1 overs (Babar Azam 30, Mohammad Nawaz 26; Wanindu Hasaranga 3/21, Maheesh Theekshana 2/21).

The two teams will now face- off in the finals of the Asia Cup on September 11.
