Two Earthquakes Jolt Parts of Northeast and Neighbouring Myanmar

The epicentre of the earthquake was in the neighbouring country of Myanmar, the second in Manipur

GUWAHATI: Two earthquakes hit parts of the Northeast early on Friday, an official report said.

The tremors were felt in Assam, including Guwahati. The epicentre of the earthquake was in the neighbouring country of Myanmar, the second in Manipur.

According to the National Centre For Seismology, the earthquake hit Myanmar at 3:52 am at a depth of 140 km. The epicentre of the quake was monitored at 23.09 degrees north latitude and 95.01 degrees east longitude.

The second 3.8-magnitude quake, with its epicentre in Kamjong, Manipur, lay at a depth of 10 km. It was reported at 7.53 am, the report said.

Several areas of the northeast felt tremors from the quake. No casualties have been reported so far.

Moreover, the northeastern region falls in a high seismic zone, making it an earthquake-prone region.
