UAE To Switch Weekends To Saturday-Sunday From January 2022

UAE has also decided to cut its official working hours during the week. Now the employees here will have to work for four and a half days instead of five.

New Delhi: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has decided to move its official workweek to Monday to Friday.

This change has brings the Islamic nation which is home to major financial institutions in line with Western schedules.

The decision will come into effect from next month making the Gulf Arab State one of the few places in the Middle East to operate on Western hours instead of on a Sunday through Thursday working week.

UAE has also decided to cut its official working hours during the week. Now the employees here will have to work for four and a half days instead of five.

According to an official statement, weekend holidays will start from Friday afternoon. Employees will now have to work four and a half days a week and get two and a half days off.

As per the news agency WAM, the UAE has become the first country in the world to have the shortest working week as compared to the global system (five working days a week). This move will provide an opportunity to the employees here to strike a better balance between work and personal life.

"From an economic point of view, this new arrangement will better connect the UAE with the global market. With this decision, the economic activities of the country along with the rest of the world will also improve,'' the WM report said.
