Guwahati: With the COVID-19 knocking on every door across the globe, tales of misfortune abound. However, a UK-based Kerala couple has bucked the trend by becoming extremely lucky in the midst of the pandemic.

Luck came knocking on the door of Shibu Paul and Linnet Joseph, a Malayali couple based in Nottingham in the United Kingdom, when they were woken up by the representatives of Lamborghini with a brand new luxury car worth Rs 1.84 crore (£195,000).

It turned out that Shibu had filled a lottery contest called 'Best of the Best' (BOTB) at the airport and then totally forgot about it. That is until he woke up to find himself the owner of a spanking new red Lamborghini -- a dream car of millions.

This could not have come at a better time for the couple as the high cost of living in Cambridge had prompted them to move to Nottingham where Linnet currently works as a staff nurse with the Nottingham City Hospital.

Shibu told The New Indian Express that he had participated three times and didn't want to become an addict. This time, he had filled the form and had forgotten about it completely. His nurse wife was taking a nap after her night shift, and when the doorbell rang, they were greeted with the brand new Lamborghini worth £195,000 and prize money of £20,000.

The couple after opening the boot of the car saw that there was Rs 18.94 lakh (£20,000) in prize money waiting for them.

Shibu, who is a native of Velloor near Piravom in Kottayam district, had fallen on hard times after losing his job and had bought the BOTB tickets in the hopes of winning something big.

The couple, who own a Toyota Yaris, said that although they are overwhelmed with the Lamborghini offer, have opted for the cash option instead.
