WASHINGTON: In an unprecedented statement, US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, revealed that President Joe Biden considers India the "most important" country in the world to him. This sentiment, according to Garcetti, marks an unprecedented moment in the history of bilateral relations between the two nations. Garcetti shared this revelation during a recent address, wherein he highlighted the robust partnership between India and the United States as a formidable force driving global progress.

"He (President Biden) told me, when he asked me to come here to serve, he said, this is the most important country in the world to me, I think something that no American president has ever uttered in the history of our two countries...Indian Americans constitute six per cent of taxpayers in the US..." Garcetti said.

Garcetti emphasized the multifaceted nature of this partnership, spanning technology, trade, environmental initiatives, women's empowerment, and even space exploration. He articulated that the collaboration between the two countries has transcended conventional limits, expanding from the depths of the seabed to the expanse of the heavens. This, he believes, positions India and the US as not just a force for good but a potent catalyst propelling the world into a more promising future.

Reflecting on his personal journey, Garcetti disclosed that he had initially aspired to study in Bodhgaya, India, for a Buddhist studies program during his junior year. However, his trajectory took a different turn when he became involved in student politics and was elected to the student council. Despite this deviation from his original dream, Garcetti mused on the interconnectedness of people and aspirations, highlighting how he eventually found himself living his Indian dream as the US Ambassador.

Recounting his experiences in his initial days as Ambassador, Garcetti shared his excitement about the warmth and hospitality he has received from India. He noted that he has had the opportunity to explore a dozen Indian states and Union Territories, savor over 200 Indian dishes, and engage with a diverse range of people. Expressing gratitude for the deep friendship between the two nations, he expressed his eagerness to further strengthen US-India relations during his tenure.

On a forthcoming note, it was announced that President Joe Biden will be visiting India to attend the G20 Summit, scheduled to be held in New Delhi from September 7 to 10. This visit holds substantial significance as it underscores the strategic importance of India in global affairs and highlights the growing partnership between the two nations on a global platform. The visit is anticipated to contribute to discussions and collaborations on a wide array of global challenges, further solidifying the bond between the US and India.
