New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled for cancer surgery and with this leaders are speculating that the command of the country's power will be in the hands of Nikolai Petrushev, the head of the Russian Security Council and former intelligence agency FSB.

Petrushev is said to be Putin's closest leader. In such a situation, there are high chances of taking over the command of the special military operation of Russia in Ukraine.

According to a Daily Mail report, a popular Telegram channel General SVR made these extraordinary claims adding that its source is a well-placed figure in the Kremlin.

As per the Russian constitution, the power should pass solely to the Prime Minister hence a surprising move, reported the Daily.

General SVR claimed that Putin has abdominal cancer and Parkinson's 18 months ago and he has delayed surgery which will now not take place before the Victory Day commemoration of Russia's World War Two victory in Red Square on May 9.

The development has come amid speculation that Putin will launch an all-out war across Ukraine and order mass mobilization of military-age men, a considerable political risk.

The surgery had been scheduled for the second half of April but was delayed, SVR claimed.

"Putin was recommended to undergo surgery, the date of which is being discussed and agreed," the outlet stated.

"There seems to be no particular urgency, but it cannot be delayed either."

Meanwhile, after the attack on Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin remains a challenge to the entire NATO including America. At the same time, Putin is adamant that he will continue to teach a lesson to Ukraine at any cost.
