ISLAMABAD: Zia Mohyeddin, the first Pakistani actor to work in Hollywood, passed away on February 13 at the age of 91. He had been ill for a short time. The seasoned actor, director, and TV personality was taken to a Karachi hospital after complaining of fever and abdominal ache. After the operation, he was later put on life support.
He was well-known for being "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Immaculate Conception," among other names. He hosted the Zia Mohyeddin Show, which became well-liked in Pakistan.
His family claims that he passed away at about 6.30 in the morning. In Karachi's Defense area, the funeral prayer would be said. Pakistan's Information and Broadcasting Ministry, which remembered him as a cultural icon, expressed sorrow at his passing.
"We grieve the loss of the iconic Zia Mohyeddin, a true symbol of Pakistani art and culture. He was a brilliant intellectual, a wonderful human being, and a beloved friend to many". "His contributions to the country and the arts will not be forgotten," a tweet read by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting.
Mohyeddin gained fame through acting, broadcasting, and poetry recitation. He was born on June 20, 1931, in Faisalabad, Punjab province, Pakistan.
He also served at the National Institute of Performing Arts in Karachi's emeritus presidency, where he served as a mentor to numerous budding performers. Additionally, he published newspaper essays.
He appeared in a number of British movies, such as "The Sailor from Gibraltar" and "A Boy Ten Feet Tall," to mention a couple. He also made guest appearances on BBC programmes like Doctors and Nurses and Danger Man. He gained further fame in Pakistan by hosting the Zia Mohyeddin Show. The autobiography "A Carrot is a Carrot: Memories and Reflections" by Mohyeddin Zia was published.
