BELGIUM: In what may be termed as a bizarre incident, a woman in Antwerp, Belgium has been banned by a zoo after she claimed that she is having an affair with a chimpanzee of the zoo.

As per reports, the woman Adie Timmermans claimed recently that she had been in a relationship with Chita, a chimpanzee of the zoo (which banned her from visiting it) for the past four years. They (Adie and the chimpanzee) used to interact from a glass partition inside the zoo premises and blow kisses at each other.

After the matter came to light, the authorities of the zoo took the decision of banning the woman as they believe that the closeness between Chita and Adie was turning out to be harmful to the primate's bonding with its chimpanzee friends of the zoo and hindering its growth with them.

Reacting to the ban, Adie said she is in love with the chimpanzee and claimed the chimpanzee deeply loves her too. She added that she just has an affair with the animal and nothing else and questioned the decision of the zoo to ban her.

The zoo, however, remained firm on its stand and said the other monkeys ignore Chita when it remains busy with visitors and they also do not consider it part of their group, though it is very important. Chita feels alone and often wanders here and there in solitude outside visiting hours, the zoo said.

Adie continues to feel discriminated against and does not agree with the zoo's decision. The news of the ban on the woman has been making the rounds on social media.

In May this year, a woman was banned for a lifetime by the Shalom Wildlife Zoo in West Bend in Wisconsin, the United States after a video of the woman petting a bobcat at the zoo surfaced on social media.
