How and when did you start your journey as an RJ?
Actually I started my journey as a television host in 2007 in NETV. In the same year, I had started working in their sister concern 91.9 Radio Oolala. Thereafter in 2010, I joined 92.7 BIG FM and have been with them ever since. Along with being an RJ I am also a television host, a stage anchor and a voice over artist.
Although I am passionate about my work as a radio jockey, I do pursue other vocations too. I am a graphologist, NLP Coach, dream analyst, energy healer and tarot card reader.
What were the highs and lows of your journey?
My journey has been my evolution. I started working when I was 19 years old. I embarked on my career path with the zest of a normal teenager and knew that I had nothing to lose. I feel that everything that I have learnt in the course of the last 15 years has culminated into a veritable treasure for me. The learnings and experiences have indeed been my biggest high. As far as lows are concerned I do not remember anything specific. I am a die-hard optimist and have always faced my challenges with a smile. Since low points and problems are an indispensable part of everyone's life, I choose not to dwell on my share of lows.
Every RJ should be different compared to others. Uniqueness is key. So what is your signature attribute?
I started my journey as a radio jockey in the first private FM station of the northeast. Therefore, I did not have anyone as an inspiration. But yes I and my colleagues were carefully trained and mentored by the seniors. In terms of my style of delivery I just decided to be myself and that has really helped me in my journey.
You are a tarot reader and several other things too. Tell us how you balance work and life.
Well I won't say that it is easy to manage work, personal life and tarot card reading or energy healing at the same time. That ofcourse would have been a cliché. I would simply say that work satisfaction mitigates all my tiredness. As a tarot reader I do end up providing guidance and much needed answers to people. This ofcourse brings them relief and joy. And seeing their smiles I feel energized to carry on.
What is your advice to aspiring RJs
Well I must say that the younger lot are really talented and smart. Being an RJ requires skills but being a sucessful RJ requires patience and consistency.
How does being an RJ enrich your overall life?
The best thing about being an RJ is that it exposes you to innumerable people. I have met so many strangers who have become friends or lasting acquaintances in these last 15 years. Some people have inspired me, some have enriched my life with their friendship and some have taught me valuable lessons. The takeaways have been immense overall. I am an extrovert and people friendly person and therefore being an RJ has definitely enriched my life.
What are some awards and accolades that you have won?
I won the Best RJ Award in 2018(Byatikram Masdo), 2019 (Maya Media Awards) and 2021 (DS Creations). These awards, instituted and conferred by different organisations have touched and overwhelmed me.
I was incidentally nominated in India Radio Forum (IRF) as Best RJ in 2019. This had felt really good, because a nomination in the national category from the north eastern region of the country has always been considered to be a big achievement.
