New Delhi: Doing exercise on a regular basis is an essential ingredient for a fit body, a healthy mind and to lead a healthy lifestyle

Even if an individual works out at least twice or thrice a week, it has a positive impact on his body. But what about one's sexual health ? Does exercise have a positive impact on it ?A recent study discloses more information about this topic.

According to a study published in 'The Journal of Sexual Medicine', it has been found that men with high waist circumference or elevated BMI (Body Mass Index) were 50 percent more susceptible to undergo erectile dysfunction.

On the other hand, at least half of the women having obesity faced problems with sexual activity, desire and performance, at times if not always, as per a study published in 'Obesity'.

According to the National Institute of Health, as many as 43 percent of women and 31 percent of men face some form of sexual dysfunction, often due to obesity and  lack of exercise.

As per a 2021 study published in 'The Journal of Sexual Medicine', women who exercised up to six hours per week showed lower sexual distress and resistance in their clitoral arteries as compared to those women who did not exercise.

The levels of desire, arousal, lubrication and orgasm were significantly higher for those who exercise.

Doctor Karyn Eilber, a urologist at Los Angeles Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and a sexual wellness expert said that this is truly a medical issue that we should be dealing with as part of someone's overall health and well-being.

She also added that there should not be a stigma around the topic.

Sex is an important part of a human being and its significance is not just restricted to reproduction.

Quality sexual activity has a major impact on the mental and emotional health of an individual, quality of life and the strength of one's sexual relationship.

This claim has been backed up a series of studies, which have indicated that sex and affectionate touch are critical for multiple aspects for well-being, such as feeling understood, cared for and accepted.
